We drove to Cookeville that Saturday in search of waterfalls to escape the summer heat for the afternoon. Not only did we find the falls, but also there was humidity. And lots of it. All three of us Berg girls resembled lions by the time we left, but splashing in the refreshing water for a few hours was well worth it. After regaining our strength at Burger Up that evening, we headed to Centenniel Park for big band dancing under the stars.
My parents and sister came to Nashville in early August for a quick weekend visit. The weather was certainly nothing to brag about, but that did not interfere with the quality time that we squeezed out of every minute we had together. We ate at Fido (of course), we spent some time breaking in our new (at the time) patio furniture, and we even spent some time indoors crafting (friendship bracelets and model motorcycles). No matter what we do when they come or how long we have together, I'm never ready to say goodbye. So instead, "until next time".
I suppose it is a little sad that I am blogging about July 4 when it is currently November 4, but I guess that just shows how busy things have been around here. Hopefully, we will have lots of photos to share as proof.
We had a lovely independence day this year, despite the fact that I was working the first 12 hours of the holiday. But that did not get in our way of spending some quality time with friends afterward. We barbecued on the Couses' patio and then fought NYC-style traffic to watch fireworks downtown. Based on our expressions captured by Ryan on film, it's safe to say we enjoyed the show.
Oh, and Ryan went to some nearby waterfalls while I was stuck at work and then came down with some horrible hives the next day. That should teach him not to have fun without me around, huh?
Supper and song was one of the many reasons we love our little neighborhood. A free event in the backyard of the local denim store, with live music, food trucks, and good ol' Nashville community. We didn't know it at the time, but this night in particular was our very last S&S, due to the city ordinances. In my mind at least, these sweet, albeit cheesy, photos in front of the glowing Tennesee sign are a perfect little tribute.
Later that night, we played a friendly (but let's be honest- things are always a bit competitive when I'm around) game of mini-golf at the local Par King course. If it weren't for the darn wheel-of-fortune at the last hole, I would have ended in pretty good standing. Nevertheless, we all agreed it had been too long since we put our putting skills to use.
The paddle boats at Independence Grove are a lovely way to enjoy the outdoors when the heat is a little more than you can bear on dry land. This year, we got the 6-seater so we could take turns paddling and soaking our feet in the water.
Sunday afternoon, we rode bikes through the forest preserve in Libertyville. Part of the trail winds around the glimmering lake and then cuts back through lush green trees with plenty of shade. With only an hour of bike rentals to explore, we didn't make it as far as we would have liked to. Seems like a good excuse to invest in a good bike rack so we can bring our own townies next time.
